Ishtar is a 28ft Cobra 850, sloop rigged, with a bukh 10HP inboard diesel engine. She was previously called Peptimus and has been kept in Cardiff Bay since 2003.We bought her in June 2008, tidied her up, renamed her and set about learning to sail. Cardiff Bay is ideal for this, being a freshwater lake linked to the Bristol Channel by locks. Over the summer of 2008 we learned the basics of sailing after completing our RYA Day Skipper practical course. We slowly built our experience in the bay and started short trips out into the Bristol channel, with it’s strong tides. In Late October we did our first overnight trip, down to Watchet on the North Devon coast.
In 2009 we have continued to build our experience with trips to Swansea marina:
Several trips spent at anchor overnight at Porlock Weir, a little further West than Watchet:

A very nervous night, just outside the outer harbour at Ilfracombe, too close to the wall for my liking:
And separate trips to Portishead Marina and up the Beutiful river Avon to Bristol.
And this is where we are at the moment:
